The purity of pure gold is expressed in terms of 'carats'. Pure gold is said to be of 24 carats.
Pure gold is very soft due to which it is not suitable for making jewellery. Gold is made alloyed with small amount of silver or copper to make it hard.

1)a carat means the no. of parts of gold present in 24 parts of the mixture of gold and other metals .
2) because pure gold is very soft . therefore , it cannot be used for making jewellery in this form for this purpose it is mixed with silver or copper to make hard
