This is the duplet (or duet) rule. Here are additional clarifications: The octet rule is a chemical rule of thumb that reflects observation that atoms of main-group elements tend to combine in such a way that each atom has eight electrons in its valence shell, giving it the same electronic configuration as a noble gas.

HEY FOLK...
This is just like octet configuration, but in this case for outermost shell of the atom have only max 2 electrons.
Like in Hydrogen and Lithium, they can't have 8 electrons but have 2 electrons for being stable and complete duplet.
The difference is only of no. of electrons is two in duplet and it's 8 in octet.
