What is meant by Imine? Give an example of the reaction.

Imine are chemical compounds containing a carbon nitrogen double bond.Imines are produced when aldehydes & ketones react with ammonia &its derivatives.

The imine compound will be formed when the aldehydes are reacted with the ketones atoms.


However, here ammonia will work as derivatives.


The compound will always have the group –C-=NZ with them.

Here take an example of,


-C-=O + H2N – Z ---H+- -C-=N – Z + H2O


The Z group can be NH2, OH, etc.
