A microorganism is quite simply any organism that cannot be seen with a naked eye and requires the use of a microscope. Most microorganisms that a person will encounter will be bacteria. But there are also unicellular Protozoa which have more in common withus than they do with bacteria. There are also molds, green algae, zooplankton and some parasitic worms. All cells can be classified as prokaryotic or eukaryotic. Protozoa, plants fungi and animals are eukartotes, they have nuclei which sorrounds the DNA and mitochondria which provide the cellwith energy. Prokaryotes lack these, DNA transcription and respiration happen throughout the cell, not in specific regions. Another formof microorganism is archaea which are prokaryotes but are distinct from both bacteria and eukaryotic cells.
