Octave in any musical instrument is the set of eight notes that start and end with the same sound like sa, re, etc( so practically there are only seven notes with the first note and the last one being the same). In western music it is doh, re, mi, etc. They are also called scales in music and the Newland's law of Octaves is a group of elements where the first element and the last element both have similar properties.
