A Preamble is an introduction to the constitution. It "walks before" the constitution and tells you the source, the objects and contents of the constitution. For a long time the experts on constitutional law maintained that the preamble was not an integral part of the constitution. But in kesavananda Bharati case the supreme court ruled that the preamble was a part of the constitution. It contains the basic structure or framework of the constitution.
