Membrane biogenesis is the process which involves the synthesis of cell membrane with the help of proteins and lipids. Endoplasmic reticulum is responsible for the synthesis of these membranes.

Membranes synthesised by this process of membrane biogenesis help in dividing the cell into structural and functional compartments. Membranes of the cell altogether are called as endomembrane system. The endomembrane system includes different membranes suspended in the cytoplasm and the plasma membrane

Membrane bio- genesis is the process, when some proteins and lipids help in building the cell membrane, inside a cell.

Formation of biological membranes.

For this there should be a lipid synthesis in the agranular reticulum and protein biosynthesis in the rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum. These two major components are arrayed giving rise to the membrane. With respect to the formation of plasma membrane, Golgi complex also comes into play as it have to produce the overcoat. In other words, it has to add carbohydrate moiety to the protein already formed in the RER.
