In females, the reproductive phase starts from 9-12 years and lasts till 40-44 years. The producation of mature ova starts at this period. One mature ova is released at a time of every 25-30 days.

During this period, the wall of the uterus beacomes thick and waits to receive an fertilised egg. In case fertilisation takes place, pregnancy occurs, if not, the inner lining of the uterus along with blood vessels are shed off. This causes bleeding in women called menstruation.
