Hi there!
Mercury is a chemical element. It is commonly known as quicksilver and was formerly named hydrargyrum.
¤ Symbol : Hg
¤ Atomic number : 80
¤ Melting point : -38. 83 °C
Many metals are very good conductors of heat and they are solids at room temperature.
but,
the only exception is Mercury.
Mercury is the only one in liquid state at room temperature.
● Why mercury is used in Thermometer?
Mercury has high coefficient of expansion. Hence, the slightest change in temperature is notable when it's used in a thermometer.
Hope it helps! :D
