A person who suffer from myopia can clearly see the nearby objects, but cannot see the distance object. This defect arises due to the eye ball becoming long or if the distance of retina from the eye lens has increased. In this case , the image of the object is formed before the retina and not on the retina .

This defect can be rectified by using spectacles with concave lens of appropriate focal length.
