Nucleoid:

The nucleoid is a region in a prokaryotic cell that is made up of genetic material of the prokaryotes. Unlike the nucleus of a eukaryote it does not contain a nuclear membrane and it is not distinguished into a perfect organelle.

The nucleoid mostly contains DNA about 60% and contain small amount of ‘RNA and protein’. The proteins that bind the DNA together and maintain the spatial organisation of a nucleus are called as “nucleoid associated proteins (NAPs)” and are different from the histones of the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell.
