Ovulation is the release of egg(ovum) from the ovary. In human this event occurs when fully mature Graffian Follicle ruptures and releases the ovum, which passes into the Fallopian tubes.Ovulation occurs midway in menstrual cycle, generally about 14 days after the commencement of menstrual flow. After ovulation, the empty Graffian Follicle in the ovary becomes filled with cells containing a yellow substance and the follicular cells greatly enlarge to become the Corpus Luteum.

Answer:

When a girl child is born, her ovaries already contain thousands of immature ova (or eggs) which are contained in immature follicles. At the age of puberty, one follicle develops into a mature ovum (or egg). It pinches off from the surface of the ovary and enters the fallopian tube. This process is termed as ovulation.
