what is oxidation reduction redox corrosion and rancidity with example
Answers
(1) Oxidation - it is a type of reaction in which oxygen is added to the substance and hydrogen is remove from the substance. Ex.
Cuo + h2 = cu + h2o
Oxygen is added to hydrogen so it is an oxidation reaction.
(2) Reduction - it is just opposite of oxidation . In reduction reactions, hydrogen is add to substance and oxygen is removed from substance.Ex.
H2S + cl2 = S + 2hcl
Hydrogen is added to chlorine so it is a reduction reaction.
(3) redox reaction - oxidation and reduction reactions are also known as redox reactions . Ex.
Cuo + h2 = cu + h2o
Oxygen is reduced from cuo and added to hydrogen so cuo is get reduced to cu and hydrogen is oxidised to water.
(4) Corrosion - corrosion is a process in which metals are gradually eaten up by the action of air , water and any chemical on their surface . Ex.
Rusting of iron is most common example of corrosion.
(5) rancidity - the condition produced by aerial oxidation of fats and oils in foods marked by unpleasant smell and taste is called rancidity. Ex.
Spoiling of food.
