Parenchyma is the most common living plant tissue. They have more intracellular spaces, Consists of thin cell walls and have large vacuoles. The main function of the parenchyma cells of roots and stem is the storage of food and water. The intercellular air spaces help in gaseous exchange.
Collenchyma is elongated living cells with small intercellular spaces. Their cell walls are made up of cellulose and pectin. Collenchyma occur in the peripheral regions of stems and leaves to provide mechanical support and flexibility in plants
