The photoelectric effect is the emission of electrons or other free carriers when light hits a material. Electrons emitted in this manner can be called photoelectrons. This phenomenon is commonly studied in electronic physics and in fields of chemistry such as quantum chemistry and electrochemistry.

Photoelectric Effect

  • It is a phenomenon in which the effect is based on the idea that electromagnetic radiation is made of series of particles.
  • When ever the photon hits an electron on the surface of metal the electorn may be emitted.
  • The electorn which are emmited is known as photoelectron.
  • This effect is also known as Hertz effect
  • The photoelectric Effect helped the physicits to know the quantum nature of light and electorns.
  • To be more precise, light incident on the metal surface of in the photoelectric effect causes electrons to be ejected.
