what is physical or mechanical weathering? what are the factors causing it?
Answers
Explanation:
Mechanical weathering is also known as physical weathering. It also involves rock disintegration without any change in the chemical constitution of rock. Main factors responsible for Mechanical Weathering are temperature changes, moisture, frost action and wind.

Good evening....
Here is ur answer....
The main causes of physical weathering are as follows -
(1) temperature- the expansion and contraction of minerals in the rocks , due to variations in temperature , form weaker zones . This gradually breaks them apart ..
(2) water : Torrential rain and flowing water, dislocate the soluble and solid particles on the rocks and expose the enner portions to the agent of weathering. The dislodged particles are carried dawn and deposit elsewhere as alluvium . Similarly the sea waves wear off the rocks on the shore . The glacier in the high mountains, exert an erosive and transporting influence on the rocks and there fragments ....
(3) wind : wind exerts abrasive action, detaches the particles from the rocks and acts as a carrying agent . Sand - storms in the high desert and high winds on the sea shore , have both erosive and transporting action...
(4) plants and animals: Lichens and moses growing on bare rocks can cause there gradual disintegration. Grasses, shrubs and trees growing in crevises of rocks help to extend the cracks through the growth of there roots ....
Hope this helps you mate...
