placenta connects the developing embryo with the wall of uterus of the mother. It provides nutrition and oxygen to the embryo from mother's blood.

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER :-

It is the intimate but temporary mechanical physiological connection between foetal and maternal tissues for nutrition , respiration , excretion etc. of the foetus . A fully developed placenta is disc shaped about 4cm in thickness , 18cm in diameter and about 1/16 weight of foetus .
