Heya,
After implantation, a special tissue called placenta develops between uterine wall and the embryo. It contains villi on the embryo side and blood space on the mother's side. The blood spaces thus surround the villi. This provides a large surface area for the transfer of useful substances to the embryo. The developing embryo will also generate waste substances which can be removed by transferring them into the mother's through the placenta.
Placenta helps in nutrition, excretion and respiration of the foetus.
Hope this helps....:)
