An instrument for measuring an electromotive force by balancing it against the potential difference produced by passing a known current through a known variable resistance.

Hey !!

  1. It is a three terminal resistor where the resistance is manually varied to control the flow of  electric current.
  2. It consists of three terminals among which, two are fixed and one is variable.
  3. In this, two fixed terminals are connected to both ends of resistive elements known as track while the third terminal is connected to sliding wiper.
  4. In potentiometer, the wiper which moves along the resistive element varies the resistance of the potentiometer.
  5. The resistance of the potentiometer gets changed when the wiper is moved over the resistive path.

GOOD LUCK !!
