Powada is a dramatic narration by reciting poetry and prosaic extracts alternately.

Powada tells the story of great deeds of heroic men and women in a very strong and inspiring way.

The two well-known examples of Powada are as follows,

1. Powada composed of Adnyandas, a contemporary poet of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who narrates the incidence of the killing of Afzal Khan.

2. Another on the battle of Simhagarh, composed of Tulasidas. In the British period, Powadas narrated the stories of the brothers Umaji Naik, Chapekar, Mahatma Gandhi.

Powadas were used for creating public awareness during the Samyukt Maharashtra movement.
