Hey Friend :-)

Here is your answer

Thank you for getting in touch with us for the answer of your query.

Redox reactions are Oxidation & Reduction reactions.

dentify the substance s that are oxidised and the substances that are reduced in the given reaction: 2PbO + C------------> 2Pb +CO2
solution:            Oxidation means addition of oxygen or removal of hydrogen.           Reduction means addition of hydrogen or removal of Oxygen.
                       2PbO + C------------> 2Pb +CO2 So in the above reaction ,                   1. Pb is reduced .  ( From PbO to Pb ) .                    2. C is oxidised (From C to CO2 ) .
In the reaction MnO2 + 4HCl -> MnCl2 + Cl2 + 2H2O , Cl (chlorine) is the substance which is oxidized from the HCl, and it is the reducing agent for the MnO2 as well. As Cl is the oxidized substance in HCl, thus it is the oxidizing agent in the reaction. I hope this makes sense to you and this answer will be helpful for you.

Answer:

The redox reaction is generally associated with when both oxidation and reduction occurs simultaneously.

Explanation:

  • 2PbO + C →  Pb + CO₂

      Oxidation state of lead Pb changes from +2 to 0. Therefore it gets reduced in the given reaction. At the same time carbon oxidized by changing its oxidation state 0 to +4.

  • MnO₂ + 4HCl → MnCl₂ + 2H₂O+ Cl₂

    Oxidation state of manganese Mn converts from +4 to +2. Therefore it gets reduced. Chlorine increases from -1 to 0 . Therefore it gets oxidized.
