iron object rust as iron is a reactive metal it react with the oxygen and moisture present in the air.
reaction:-
fe +o2 -> fe2o3
fe2o3 + xH2O -> fe2O3.xh2O
conditions for rusting are presence of oxygen and moisture in the air.
