SAPROPHYTIC PLANTS —
Some organisms derive nutrition from dead and decaying organic matter . Such organisms (mainly plants) are called Saprophytes and this mode of nutrition is called Saprophytic mode of nutrition. Examples of Saprophytes -
- Mushrooms • Monotropa •bread moulds etc.
Saprophytes release digestive juices on the dead and decaying matter . These juices act upon and convert organic matter into liquid form (simpler substances). These organisms then again absorb this liquid and obtain nutrition from it.
