Answer :-

Sickle-Cell anaemia is a type of Pleiotropy in which, the genes have the ability to sport multiple effects.

The effects of Sickle-Cell anaemia are as follows :-

  • The primary effect of the mutated gene is the production of an abnormal haemoglobin.

  • The subsidiary effect of the abnormal haemoglobin includes the sickle-shape of the Red Blood Cells (RBCs).

  • Because of the abnormal haemoglobin, the Red Blood Cells (RBCs) develop the tendency to clump together and clog blood vessels in various organs of the body.

  • The organs such as the Heart, Kidneys, Spleen and Brain, get damaged as the target organs of this syndrome.

  • The defective Red Blood Cells (RBCs) inside the body get destroyed, causing severe Anaemia.
