What is soil? Discuss the formation of soil and factors affecting it.

The word soil is derived from Latin word ' Solum" which means floor or ground. In general soil refers to the loose surface of the earth as distinguished from solid rock. Soil formation is a long process . It takes millions of yrs 2 form 1cm thick layer of soil.

FACTORS which help in formation of soil are: PARENT ROCK: The rocks are disintegrated & decomposed by weathering 2 form soil. CLIMATE:  It determines the rate of weathering. SLOPE: Slope of land decides the deposition of soil. TIME: Long periods of time help maturity of soil.

Soil is the mixture of minerals, organic matter, gases, liquids in which many organisms live.plants grow in soil.Soil are of many types-black,red,loamy,clayey,laterite etc.the soil is formed by weathering of rocks.When water air and wind act upon rocks they broke into simpler pieces to form soil.
