Somatogamy:

Somtogamy is the fusion of two somatic hyphae acting as gametes for two sexually compatible mycelia. This is the most reduced form of sexual reproduction. It is very common, if indeed typical for basidiomycetes, but not prevalent in ascomycetes.

Difference in Somatogamy and spermatization:

1)Refer the diagram

2) Definition of somatogamy as above while Spermatization is defined as the process in which small spore or spermatospores or spermatia that are small seed like structures are formed.

3) Spermatization occurs in the fungi where spermatia are formed in male hypha and are transferred to female or receptive hypha whereas Somatogamy occurs in basidiomycetes like mushroom

4) Somatogmy examples- Agaricus (Mushroom)

Spernatization examples- Puccinia/Neurospora
