SONAR stands for SOund Navigation And Ranging.
Sonar is a device used to measure the depth of the sea or the distance and location of underwater objects. It has a transmitter and a detector. The transmitter sends ultrasonic waves into the sea. These waves are reflected back by the underwater objects and detected by the detector. By knowing the speed of sound in water and the time interval between transmission and reception, the distance can be calculated.
It is used to find underwater hills, valleys ,sunken ships and submarines.
The formula to calculate the distance of underwater object is:-
2d = vĂt

Hi friend,
SONAR(Sound Navigation and ranging)is a device which helps to detect objects deep under the ocean using sound waves after they are being reflected.
A sonar works when we transmit ultrasonic waves into the water the waves reflects back and then they will be detected by the detector.
I know only this much.
Hope it helped you.........................
