Answer:

The suitable indicator that should be used while performing titration of NaOH and oxalic acid is phenolphthalein.

It is and indicator which is colourless when dissolved in acid and pink with base.

What is Titration ?

It is a process in which fixed volume of solution is taken in a conical flask, another solution of known concentration is added to it with the help of burette to bring a definite reaction to completion of the reaction.

Procedure of Titration of NaOH and Oxalic acid :

  1. Rinse the burette with NaOH solution.
  2. Fit the burette on stand.
  3. Fill it up with NaOH solution.
  4. Note the initial reading of the burette.
  5. Pippette out 250 mL of oxalic acid and transfer it into a conical flask.
  6. Add 2-3 drops of phenolphthalein.
  7. Titrate the acid with base, until the solution turns permanent light pink.
  8. Repeat the titration three times, until you get two concurrent readings.
