Sulh-i-kul introduced by Akbar is a secular policy intending to promote universal peace. Based on sufi principle of religious tolerance. The new religion developed by Akbar known as Din-i-Ilahihas its genesis in Sulh-i-kul doctrine. Akbar’s broad minded and liberal secular policy led to his decisions like downsizing the role of parochial and conservative Ulemas in administration and abolishing of Jiziya and pilgrim tax levied on non-muslims. Thus, Akbar remains so far one of the most liberal, secular and tolerant Islamic ruler India has witnessed.
