Hey dear here is your answer!!!!!

___________________________

In chemical formulas we often observe superscript and subscript characters which are printed slightly above or below the normal text.

Let's discuss them below:-

1. Super Script - It shows the valency of the element or compound it is written with. It can range from 1 to 3. I can either be +ve or -ve.

  • Positive valency shows that it has lost electrons.
  • Negative Valency shows that it has gained electrons.

Example - Cl ⁺¹ or Li ⁻¹

2. Sub Script - It shows the number of elements or compounds bonded together. If an element or compound has no number written in sub-script with it then it shows that it is single. If there are multiple elements bonded together then it can range from 2 to 8.

Example - H₂O
