chromosomes start pairing together and this process is called synopsis. such paired chromosomes are called homologous chromosomes. This chromosome synopsis is accompanied by the formation of complex structure called synaptonemal complex.this complex forms the structural basis for pairing and synopsis of meiotic chromosomes.
