what is the advantage of using the merge and center feature while working with tables?

The cell merge feature is used to produce one heading of two columns. Suppose, There is a cell for name and another cell for surname. So we have to make the heading by merging two cells and writing the heading NAME. In other words, a heading which has two columns under it.

Center is a feature used to give the heading text an even look from all the margins of the cell so that the text looks equidistant from all sides.
