  • Chemical name of Bleaching powder is : Calcium oxychloride.

         ( CaOCl₂ )  

  • Obtained by reaction of dry slaked lime with Cl₂.

  • Pale yellow powder.

  • Soluble in water.

  • Loses chlorine on exposure to air.

  • Used as oxidising agent.

  • Used as bleaching agent.

  • Used in manufacture of CHCl₃.

  • Makes wool unshrinkable.
