I think the chief cause of indian climate is the influence of monsoon wind.India remains under the domain of humid oceanic south-west monsoon in summer and dry north-west monsoon in winter. But the location of india also takes a big part in changing the climates.T he tropic of cancer passes through the middle of the country. The Himalaya helps to prevent the cold north wind to come to India.
Hope it helps.
