Disinfection refers to the process of cleansing in order to destroy bacteria and almost any kind of microorganism. This cleansing is usually done using chemicals. The disinfection process can be carried out on wounds, hard surfaces, clothing and more with the help of ultraviolet rays, heat and chemicals.

One of the common examples of how disinfection is done is to heat milk to a high temperature of 100°C for a minimum of 10 seconds. This kills all the potential harmful microbes and makes the milk more stable than even pastuerised milk.
