Immunity refers to the resistance to a particular toxin or infection. The immunity is produced by the action of sensitized white blood cells and/or specific antibodies.  There are essentially four kinds of immunity:

*Acquired Immunity – This is the immunity that a person develops after being exposed to an ideal agent.

*Active Immunity – This is a long-lasting immunity that a person acquires by producing antibodies inside the organism in response to the antigens present.

*Natural Immunity – This is also called innate immunity and is the immunity possessed by a person from birth before exposure to any antigen or pathogen.

*Passive Immunity – This is a short-term immunity and is the result of transfer of antibodies.
