What is the difference between "appoint" and "elected" in civics...Like Prime Minister of India in appointed by President but elected by People...Scam answers will be reported ​

In civics, the ‘elected’ means that the person is being elected for the post through an election & the ‘appoint’ is when a certain person of authority has chosen a person & appointed person for a job or a role.
As per my knowledge this is the difference.
