What is the difference between "appoint" and "elected" in civics...Like Prime Minister of India in appointed by President but elected by People...Scam answers will be reported

In civics, the ‘elected’ means that the person is being elected for the post through an election & the ‘appoint’ is when a certain person of authority has chosen a person & appointed person for a job or a role.
As per my knowledge this is the difference.
