What is the difference between real and virtual image with examples?

REAL IMAGES:

  1. It is formed when actual intersection of rays takes place.
  2. It is always inverted.
  3. It can be obtained on a screen.
  4. For ex. The projector projects a real image on the white screen, the image is made to appear erect by our brain.

VIRTUAL IMAGES  :

  1. No actual intersection of rays taken place.
  2. It is always erect.
  3. It cannot be obtained on a screen.
  4. For ex. The image formed in the mirror cannot be obtained on a screen.

real image is formed when the rays of light after reflection or refraction actually meet at some point whereas a virtual image is formed when the rays of light after reflection or refraction appear to meet at a point.
