What is the difference between simple squamous epithelium and stratified squamous epithelial tissue cells?

Simple means one layer.

Stratified means multi layers.

Squamous epithelium is made up of thin, flat, polygonal cells.

They are having disc like structure.

The nucleus is rounded, bulging and centrally located.

They form a structure as that of a floor tile .

The squamous epithelium are of two types :

★ Simple Squamous tissue
★ Stratified Squamous tissue

Location :

They form the lining of nose, pericardial cavity, blood vessels, lung alveoli, coelomic cavity etc .

They are also found in the surface of the skin .

Functions :

• Protection

• Exchange of gases

• Ultrafiltration

• Abrasion
