Singly reinforce beam:

In case of SINGLY REINFORCED BEAMS, the Tangible on upper portion (top fibers) is exposed to compression and the Reinforcements are delivered to resist tension on lower part (refer theory of pure bending). In this case however the depth of the beam is larger.

Doubly reinforce beam:

In case of DOUBLY REINFORCED BEAM, the reinforcements are also used in repelling the compression and the cross sectional area of reinforcements are denoted as Asc.

Hope it helped.....

Difference between singly reinforced beam and doubly reinforced beam:

  • As per the different requirements for a construction in a certain building that the different beams are allocated.
  • The single Reinforced beam is used  are constructed where the Beam needs the support only on one side mostly on the bottom part of the beam and can hold and support the structure whereas the double reinforced beam is used for construction where the Bean needs to be strong enough to hold the weight so two sides are reinforced with steel.
  • The Steel being reinforced in the beams are basically done using Steel bars which form the skeletal system of the construction.
