Formation: Floodplains are formed naturally at the instance of a meander eroding sideways as it flows towards downstream.
When a river destroy its banks, it leaves behind huge layers of alluvium.
These build up slowly and gradually and is built up to create the floors at the plain locations.
However, all rivers do not form deltas.
Types of delta are:
Birds foot Delta: Materials are Deposited and bifurcate the river into smaller streams distributing water.
Lacustrine Delta: It is Formed when a river flows into a lake.
