Diamond: each carbon atom bonds to 4 other carbon atoms, WHILST, Graphite: each carbon atom bonds to 3 other carbon atoms. Thus, diamond bears more of a tetrahedral structure, whereas graphite takes the form of layers.

Hey mate,

*Diamond:- It has a crystalline lattice.

*Graphite:- It has a layered structure.

*Diamond:- each carbon atom is sp3 hybridised and is bonded to four other carbon atoms through a σ bond.

*Graphite:-In graphite, each carbon atom is sp2 hybridised and is bonded to three other carbon atoms through a σ bond. The fourth electron forms a π bond.

*Diamond:- it is made up of tetrahedral units.

*Graphite:- It has a planar geometry.

*Diamond;- The C-C bond length in diamond is 154 pm.

*Graphite:-The C-C bond length in graphite is 141.5 pm.

*Diamond:- It has a rigid covalent bond network which is difficult to break.

*Graphite:- It is quite soft and its layers can be separated easily.

*Diamond:-It acts as an electrical insulator.

*Graphite:-It is a good conductor of electricity.
