1) 18 Biosphere reserves are set-up on the country – for protection of Flora & Fauna. 4 out of 18 Bio-sphere Reserves are included in ‘World Biosphere Reserves’Network. They are –
a) Sunderbans of West Bengal
b) Nanda Devi in Uttarakhand
c) Gulf of Mannar in Tamil Nadu
d) Nilgiris – In Karnataka, Kerala & Tamil Nadu
2) Financial & Technical Assistance is provided to many Botanical Gardens – by Government of India since 1992
3) Eco-Developmental projects have been introduced such as – Project Tiger, Project Rhino, Project Great Indian Bustard, etc…
4) 103 National Parks, 535 Wildlife & Zoological parks – are set-up to take care of wild animals.
• Himachal Pradesh has 'Montane Forests.' Plants are conical in shape so that it is easy for the snow to slide down . Major Trees are - Pine, Deodar, Cedar, Silver Fir. Major Animals found here are - Yak, Snow Leopard, Tibetan Antelope, Kashmir Stag.
• Kerala has 'Tropical Evergreen' or 'Rain Forests' Trees appear Green throughout the year since they shed leaves at different times . These forests have abundant multi-layered vegetation with tall trees, creepers & bushes . Major Trees are - Ebony, Mahogany , Rosewood , Rubber, Cinchona . Major Animals are - Rhinoceros Elephants, Deer, Monkeys.
