You can try using prime factorization, just group every same digits in 2 pairs and only in 2 pairs (for square root, for cube roots it's in the group of 3) and then multiply all the rest remaining numbers.
For example for √8 it will be:
2|8
2|4
2|2
1|1
Over here after grouping the same digits (over here it is 2) into groups of 2, it will give 2 * √2
In other words just think of each number as a root and then multiply, so it will be √2 × √2 × √2 × √1 = 2√2
