Let the mass of the metallic chloride be x.
∴ Mass of the chlorine in the Metallic chloride = 74.73 % of x.
= 0.7473x
Also, Mass of the Metal in the chloride = Mass of the metallic Chloride - Mass of the Chlorine in the Metallic Chloride
⇒ Mass of the metal = x - 0.7473x
∴ Mass of the Metal = 0.2527x
Now, Using the Formula,
Equivalent weight of the metal = (Mass of the Metal/Mass of the Chlorine) × Molar Mass of the Chlorine.
∴ Equivalent Weight of the Metal = (0.2527x/0.7473x) × 35.5
[∵ Atomic Mass of the chlorine is 35.5]
∴ Equivalent Weight of the Metal = 0.338 × 35.5
∴ Equivalent weight of the Metal = 12.004
Hence, the Equivalent weight of the metal in the metallic chloride is 12.004.
