In case there is coagulation or clotting:
The fluid portion of the blood is plasma.
In case after coagulation:
The fluid portion of the blood is serum.
The NCERT books give more emphasis on blood plasma so it is described in the text below.
• Composition:
As to talk about blood plasma, it is 95% water with no blood cells be it RBC, WBC or platelets.
It has got dissolved proteins, electrolytes, bio-catalysts etc.
• Function:
It helps in transportation of various substances.
It also helps in clotting of blood as it has got the required proteins for this task.
• Color:
It is yellow in color.
• Extraction
It can be done by centrifugation.
Such that the blood cells accumulate at the bottom of the tube.

The liquid part, called plasma, is made of water, salts, and protein. Over half of your blood is plasma. The solid part of your blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
