Digestive enzymes are present in digestive juices which are secreted by various glands and components in the digestive system.

There are four categories of digestive enzymes:

Carbohydrases: These enzymes digest carbohydrates. For example, Amylase.

Proteinases: These enzymes digest proteins. For example, Pepsin.

Lipases: These enzymes digest lipids. For example, Gastric lipase

Nucleases: These enzymes digests nucleic acids.

Digestive enzymes such as amylase, lipase, pepsin, trypsin, etc. helps to break the complex food particles into simple ones so that these simple particles can be easily absorbed by the blood and thus transported to all the cells of the body
