Dopamine basically acts as a hormone and a neurotransmitter.outside the central nervous system it functions as a paracrine messengers. it inhibits norepinephrine (nor adrenaline)and thus acts as a vasodilater at normal concentrations. it also reduces insulin productivity in the digestive system,reduces gastro intestinal motility and protects the intestinal mucosa, and in the immune system it reduces the activity of lymphocytes.

PARKINSON'S DISEASE is caused due to the deficiency of dopamine secreting neurons in brain.
