Genes. Genes are contained in the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and hence DNA can be measured. Ribonucleic acid (RNA) and DNA are types of nucleic acids.

Along with lipids, nucleic acids, proteins and complex carbohydrates that are known as polysaccharides, DNA is the four main types of macromolecules which are important for all life forms.

Both the strands of DNA have the same biological information that is traits.
