The green sulfur bacteria are a family of obligately anaerobic photoautotrophic bacteria. Together with the non-photosynthetic Ignavibacteriaceae, they form the phylum Chlorobi. Green sulfur bacteria are nonmotile and capable of anoxygenic photosynthesis.
